NCEA & Subjects
Hamilton Christian Secondary School offers a variety of course options that lead to exciting careers and further studies at tertiary institutes. We also aim to cater for our students with learning pathways that prepare them for trades and employment opportunities. Knowing our students from the start of Year 10 means we can provide them with tailored educational opportunities that not only provide them with academic achievements but also 21st Century skills to be successful as they leave school.
Year 10
Students study the core subjects. Bible, English, mathematics, physical education, science and worldview studies are compulsory. Students participate in technology rotations and may choose 1 option subject from either art, digital technology or music.
Year 11
Students study 6 subjects to gain 80+ credits towards their NCEA Level 1. Bible, English, mathematics, and general science are compulsory. Students may choose 3 option subjects from the following list:
- Art
- Business Studies
- Digital Technology
- Music
- Physical Education
- Social Science
Year 12
Students study 6 subjects to gain 60+ credits towards their NCEA Level 2. Bible, English and mathematics are compulsory. Students may choose 3 option subjects from the following list:
- Art
- Biology
- Business Studies
- Chemistry
- Digital Technology
- Music
- Physical Education
- Physics
- Social Science
Year 13
Students may study 4 to 6 subjects to gain 60+ credits. They need to select their Year 13 courses carefully so that they can gain entrance into a tertiary institute of their choice. The University Entrance qualification should be gained by the end of Year 13. Students may choose subjects from the following list:
- Art
- Biology
- Business Studies
- Calculus
- Chemistry
- Digital Technology
- English
- Music
- Physical Education
- Physics
- Social Science
- Statistics
Additionally students may choose a correspondence subject which they will complete with Te Kura. Options are available on their website: https://www.tekura.school.nz/subjects-and-courses/

Study overseas with NCEA qualifications
If you are planning to study at an overseas tertiary institution, contact the institution as early as possible to find out what information they require from you regarding your results. Australian institutions will contact NZQA directly to obtain your results.
